kennt ihr noch 'Moulay Chérif Lamrani', der Leader der marokkanischen
Band Lemchaheb?
'Moulay Chérif Lamrani' ist nun am 26. Oktober in Rabat im Alter von
nur 55 Jahren einer langwierigen Krankheit erlegen.
Ich wollte Euch fragen, ob er (Lamrani) von seiner Zusammenarbeit mit Euch
in den 80ern hat profitieren können?, und ob der Rest der 'Lemchaheb'
etwas davon kriegen, wenn man heute ihre CD's kauft? Ich habe sie kürzlich
in einem Interview im marokkanischen TV gesehen (Saida, Sousdi, Hammadi und
Manager Bakhti) und es scheint, denen geht es nicht so gut :(

Lamrani, der ursprünglich aus Casablanca stammte, verfügte über
ein Repertoire von 250 Liedern, in denen er oftmals politische Missstände
in der Arabischen Welt anprangerte und entwickelte ein spezielles/eigenes
Mandolineninstrument, das sowohl indische Züge trug als auch Parallelen
zur Arabischen Oud aufwies und zum charakteristischen Sound von Lemchaheb
beitrug. Ende der 70er erlebte die Band ihre Blütezeit, ihre Hits genossen
in ganz Arabien und vor allem in Marokko Kultstatus. International bekannt
wurde Lamrani hierzulande durch seine intensive Zusammenarbeit mit Dissidenten,
auf deren Ethnobeat-Klassikern „Sahara Elektrik“ und „Life
At The Pyramids“ er u.a. zu hören ist.

prolonged illness.
What a great loss to his family, friends, fans and the music world. He certainly
was one of the best songwriters and musicians and he will be sadly missed.

played at gRAFFITI, a small club in Pittsburgh, PA, April 1988. It was a fantastic
concert, and probably the first exposure of many of those in attendance to
world fusion music. Too bad recent recordings of the band are so hard to get.
I would play them on my radio progra, Jazz and Beyond (WQLN-FM, Erie, PA,
91.3; wqln.org for streaming audio).
I certainly hope the band tours North America again. They are
extremely accomplished musicians and very exciting!

Euer Konzert im Roxy war für mich eine totale Überraschung. Ich
habe Euch das erste mal auf der Bühne erlebt und hätte eine ganz
andere Vorstellung erwartet. Echt super!
Wir würden uns übrigens sehr freuen, mal wieder etwas von dir zu
hören. Zu etlichen Anläßen haben wir dir per SMS Grüße
geschickt, leider ohne Reaktion. Stimmt deine Handynummer von 2000 noch? Wie
geht es eigentlich Gordon? Das letzte was wir von ihm hörten war, daß
er wohl jetzt in Portugal lebt. Andrea findet seine Lieder immer noch super

I picked up Sahara Elektrik at Tower Records in NYC in 1997 because I thought
the cover was cool. When i brought it home it was as interesting as the cover.
I love the album and all the songs on it. I'm just a kid from New Jersey,
USA, but I doubt diissidenten ever plays here in the states. It would be the
best though! Really happy that i found this website. Very cool to see the
videos. I am a musician and I have jammed some dissidenten with an acoustic
guitar, violin, and dumbek. with some friends. Anyway, this site has inspired
me to start listening to some more dissidenten. Thank you very much,

Wenn ich in Ulm entlang der Donau wandere, kommt mir die dokumentarische Oper
von Gordon Sherwood "das Gedächtnis des Wassers" in den Sinn,
und es überwältigt mich stets ein Gefühl der Verborgenheit,
das aus der inneren Wahrnehmung eines namenlosen, beinahe mythischen Flusses
entspringt und das mir wie eine Aufzeichnung des Flusses meiner Gedanken,
meiner Vergangenheit und meiner Zukunft erscheint.
Mitte Juli des Jahres Zweitausend anlässlich eines „Donaufestes“
sollte in Ulm am Flussufer eine dokumentarische Oper von Gordon Sherwood und
Uve Müllrich mit der Gruppe "Dissidenten" uraufgeführt
werden: "das Gedächtnis des Wassers" hieß das Werk. Das
Wetter war labil und das angekündigte Donau-Festival wurde als kultureller
Höhepunkt gepriesen. Schönes Wetter war allen Prognosen zum Trotz
erhofft. Tatsächlich regnete es aber an diesem Tag im Strömen und
alles wurde kurzfristig ins Kongresszentrum umgeleitet. Es war mehr Zufall,
dass wir diese Oper miterleben durften. Die bei der Uraufführung anwesenden
Komponisten waren mir gänzlich unbekannt, wurde aber mit vielen Ovationen
begrüßt. Die hiesigen Kulturliebhaber scheinen jedoch inzwischen
sowohl die Komponisten als auch ihr Werk vergessen zu haben, da ich seitdem
in Ulm nie mehr von Gordon Sherwood, Uve Müllrich oder den Dissidenten
gehört habe. Möglicherweise ist ihre Musik flussabwärts Richtung
Schwarzes Meer runtergespült worden. Mir hat sich "das Gedächtnis
des Wassers" auf jeden Fall tief in mein Bewusstsein eingeprägt.

"DAS GEDÄCHTNIS DES WASSERS" von Uve zugeschickt bekommen.
Nebenbei, das war ein nettes Angebot von Eurer Seite, sie Interessenten kostenlos
zukommen zu lassen...Danke für die Zeit und Energie.
Und? Es ist klasse zu hören und zu sehen, wie hier eine Vision umgesetzt
wurde. Eine musikalische und menschliche Vision, die sicherlich nur mit großem
Einsatz, einer unabdingbaren Liebe zur Musik, die Menschen eint, und großem
Können möglich wurde.
Visionäre braucht das Land...unsere Welt. Ich schlage hierzu die Dissidenten

Hace dos o tres dias, para mi sorpresa, en unos grandes almacenes encontré
por casualidad el cd "Instinctive traveler" de 1997 pero, cuando
pregunté si habia disponible en el mercado español más
de vuestra obra, me dijeron que no. El caso es que estoy interesado en tres
discos (cd) vuestros: "Sahara Elektrik", "The Jungle Book"
y "Germanistan" y no sé como conseguirlos. ¿Hay alguna
posibilidad de que me los envieis con pago a contrarreembolso, incluyendo
los gastos de envío, a una dirección que os dé? Os lo
agradecería mucho ya que no existe prácticamente distribución
de vuestro producto en España. También soy seguidor de grupos
como Gong, Popol Vuh, Amon Duul II, Can, As Ra Temple, Magma y otros. Saludos

se arriesgaba a comprar vuestro cd, y oye fue una bendicion, y gracias a ese
